Wajir medical practitioners threaten strike

WAJIR- Public hospital operations in Wajir county could be halted after Wajir medical practitioners threatened to go on strike to push for promotion and re-designation of it’s staffs.

Kenya Union of Nurses Wajir branch secretary Mr Hassan Adan has directed all nurses to down their tools as from 18,March,2020 if the county government fails to address their concern.

‘’We hearby issue a 14- days strike notice as from 3rd March,2020 following reluctance by public service board Wajir county government to promote and re- designate our members with different specialties,’’ said Mr. Hassan

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers and Kenya National Union of Medical laboratory officers Union have also signed a notice letter addressed to the Chief officer medical services, Wajir county.

The practitioners have also accused the public service board of ‘insensitivity’ on promoting it’s staffs since 2017 despite numerous request by the department.

The strike is expected to paralyse key units in the government hospitals like emergency, renal,eye unit and others.
