Wajir County First Lady Mrs Rukia Abdinassir has praised the transformative impact of the Adolescent Girls Initiative–Kenya (AGI-K) Programme, describing it as a critical driver in advancing education, empowerment and the overall wellbeing of girls in the region.
Speaking as the Chief Guest during the programme’s close-out meeting and dissemination of results, Mrs Rukia highlighted the initiative’s alignment with her longstanding advocacy for the girl child. She emphasized that investing in girls’ education remains one of the most powerful ways to foster sustainable development.
“When girls stay in school, they gain knowledge, confidence and opportunities that not only transform their own lives but also strengthen families and communities.” she said.
The First Lady commended the Population Council, the County Government of Wajir and various partners for their dedication and collaboration throughout the programme’s implementation. She noted that their combined efforts have resulted in meaningful and lasting change for adolescent girls across the county.
Abdinassir also recognized the vital role played by grassroots stakeholders and credited their unwavering support with helping ensure that girls remain in school and have access to opportunities for growth and success.
“The success of this programme is a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared purpose,” she said.
As the AGI-K Programme concludes, the First Lady called for sustained commitment from all stakeholders to build on the gains made. She urged continued investment in safe, inclusive and supportive environments that allow every girl to reach her full potential.
“Let us continue working together to support our girls and strengthen community engagement “ she added.
The AGI-K Programme has been widely recognized for its integrated approach to improving educational outcomes and life opportunities for adolescent girls, particularly in marginalized areas. Its conclusion marks a significant milestone, while also setting the stage for future initiatives aimed at empowering young women across Kenya.
