We will never negotiate with Al-shabab, Wajir East MP vows

WAJIR- Wajir East Member of Parliament Rashid Kassim has vowed that the Kenyan Government will never negotiate with Somalia based Al-shabab militia.

Speaking during a security sensitization baraza in Konton location , the MP said they will not negotiate with the Islamist militant who have for the past one year re-doubled their attacks and abducted alot of people from this region.

”If we negotiate with Al- shabab , it amounts to opening a new business avenue , they will keep on abducting our people,” The MP said

The legislature also said they have started talks with the leadership and elders from the neighbouring Gedo region in order to rescue those adducted from his constituency and flush out the Al-shabab insurgents from the Kenya- Jubaland borders.

”We are trying to establish a network connection with our neighbouring Gedo leadership and elders, Jubaland to rescue the abductees and flush out Al- shabab from our borders,”

”We are missing 3 KPR officers and 3 others who are abducted from a road construction site,” Kassim added

The MP said that there are plans by the National and the County government of Wajir to expand the main roads that leads to the boarder town of Konton in order to curb the IED attacks which are becaming rampant in the region.

” Al-Shabaab are extremely weak, they resorted to planting IED in our roads,”

”We thought wisely to expand our roads by 100 metres and do bush clearing in order to recognise those planting IED’s,” Wajir East MP said

The Government is expected to open two temporary military camps in Qarsa and Konton locations, Wajir East in order to secure the boarder and reduce al-shabaab attacks in the county.
