
Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has confirmed one positive Coronavirus case in the county.
The case was confirmed at Diif, a small town in Wajir South, near the Somalia border.
“I want to confirm one person, a male, has been confirmed positive, he is a 36 year old from Modogashe, Garissa county,” Mohamud said while addressing reporters at county headquarters.
The governor said the patient was among four businessmen who crossed over from Somalia and were intercepted on their way back from the neighbouring country.
However, the county boss announced that the patient is currently isolated at Wajir Referral Hospital and is in stable condition.
The other three are quorantined at Wajir KMTC facility.
Following the confirmation of the first coronavirus case, the county government has put up some preventive strategies to curb the spread of the disease among them a 14 – day lockdown in Diif town effective Sunday 3rd, May, 2020.
The trucks ferrying food and medical supplies will be exempted from the lockdown.
A livestock market at Dagahley will also be closed as from Sunday in order to curb the spread of the disease.
The county government also suspended outpatient services at the referral hospital, the biggest in the county. Mohamud said they will start the process of equipping dispensaries.
Medical officials from the health department will also begin tracing of contacts in Diif and other neighbouring locations.
