Wajir county Government has cleared the air on the reported cases of coronavirus in Warcade and Diif locations in Eldas and Wajir south sub-county.

The Department has said it has investigated both cases and found that it does not meet the case definition of Coronavirus.

Wajir county’s Health executive Mr. Ismail Isaack said they have dispatched a team of doctors to examine the situation in those areas.

Four people who crossed over from the Somalia boarder will also be quarantined at Wajir referral hospital and their samples tested in the newly unveiled referral laboratory.

’’We have no case in Wajir as at now and the suspected people do not showcase Covid-19 signs ,’’ said Mr. Ismail

The County CEC said that officials from the health department also managed to trace one passenger who was travelling with a Mandera bound bus whose two passengers on-board tested positive for coronavirus.

‘’We traced the only known passenger who disembarked in Wajir, we quarantined him for 14 days and he finally tested negative to the disease,’’ added

Mr. Ismail has faulted the residents for flouting the Ministry of Health guidelines saying that they stand a higher chance of spreading the disease if in case it’s recorded in the county.

‘’There are behavioural challenges within our community, some still flout the government guidelines, ‘’

‘’Our people do not wear masks, they still don’t practice social distancing ,’’ said the County health boss

The health official said that his department has started distributing face masks, alcohol-based hand sanitizers and thermogans at police checkpoints and boarder entries in order to easily intercept those with corona symptoms .

‘’We have distributed masks, sanitizers at designated areas like the market place in order to help curb the spread of the disease,’’ added Mr. Isaack

In a bid to cushion the residents from the dangers of coronavirus, the health department will begin mass awareness campaign in Wajir and all the sub- counties so as to prevent the spread of the virus.
