Our COVID-19 cases have normalised, says Wajir Governor


Wajir County Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has announced that his county does not have a single case of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during the flagging off of relief food at the county headquarters, the governor has said that they have so far discharged all those admitted at different isolation wards in the county after they tested negative to the disease.

“Our COVID 19 infections have normalized at 16 cases with no current admissions in both the quarantine and isolation facilities across the county,” said Mr. Abdi.

Wajir has recorded it’s first case on 20,March,2020.

Mr. Abdi has also welcomed the move by President Uhuru who has lifted the cessation of movement in Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa and Mandera counties urging the residents to exercise cautiousness and participate in the containment of the disease.

He also added that his administration has embarked on mass testing from targeted areas mostly at the boarder points, bus stations,markets place among others.

“in the last two days we have tested 138 persons for COVID 19 disease drawn mostly from workers of eateries and butcheries and the results will be out soon,” added Abdi.

The Wajir regional laboratory has initially tested 983 samples from Wajir, Mandera, Dobley and Dadaab refugee camps.

As part of containment measures, the county has so far increased the number of isolation beds, trained more health workers and volunteers.
