Mandera man petitions KERA over sad state of roads

Mr. Quraish A Habashow, a resident of Mandera County has written to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERA) seeking to be furnished with information relating to the sad state of road in Mandera North Constituency.
In a letter through Bonbegi & Co advocates law firm, Mr Habashow wants to be provided with a copy detailing the list of road projects done by KERA from the year 2016 to 2022.

He also wants to be served with other important and crucual documentation among them a copy of tender advertisement, tender evaluation report and successful companies that were awarded to undertake the project.
Mr Quraish also enquired on any other tangible evidence of the completed projects in his constituency.
He said that he is pursuing this in order to ascertain the the development of rural roads in his constituency by KERA plays a critical role in alleviating poverty and smoothens the economic prosperity of his people.
Abdullahi Alas, a columnist and a governance expert allegedly accuses the current MP for Mandera North Mr. Bashir Abdullahi of misusing the CDF monies.
” There is so much impunity in the distribution of resources under CDF kitty in Mandera North Constituency since 2017.”
“The area MP has been awarding not more than five companies that belong to his cousin,” said Alas.
He said that he will in due course write to the National Government Constituencies Board over the same.
Mandera North is one of the constituencies in the North whose fate still hangs at the corridors of Justice after court petition was filed by Mohamed Farah Bardad, the Jubilee candidate in the last generals elections.
On 27th, February, the high court uphold the election of Bashir Abdullahi and dismissed the petition with cost.
Justice Hedwig Ong’udi ruled that Abdullahi was validly elected and petitioner did not produce substantial evidence to annul the election of Mandera North Parliamentary seat.
Farah Bardad said that he holds utmost respects for the decision made by the court but entirely disagreed with it is ruling.
On 9th, March, Farah Bardad through his lawyers appealed against the high court ruling.
