Wajir County has paid tribute to a leader whose tenure left a lasting mark on the region’s security, development and social cohesion. As Mr. Karuku Ngumo officially handed over the instruments of authority to the incoming County Commissioner, Mr. Ronald O. Enyakasi, residents and stakeholders took the opportunity to celebrate the exemplary service of a public servant widely credited with steering the county through a period of notable progress.

The handover ceremony brought together senior government officials, security agencies, community elders, religious leaders, civil society representatives and other distinguished guests.

Beyond marking a routine leadership transition, the event became a heartfelt recognition of Mr. Ngumo’s dedication and achievements during his time in office.

Throughout his service in Wajir, Mr. Ngumo demonstrated a leadership style rooted in accessibility, partnership and a deep commitment to public service. His tenure coincided with important milestones that strengthened the county’s foundations and enhanced confidence among residents.

Among his most notable contributions was his unwavering focus on improving security and fostering peaceful coexistence among communities. Working closely with security agencies, local leaders, elders and religious institutions, he championed dialogue and collaboration as key tools in addressing emerging challenges and maintaining stability.

His efforts helped create an environment where communities could pursue development and livelihoods with greater confidence and optimism.

Mr. Ngumo also played a pivotal role in supporting major development initiatives within the county. His leadership oversight during the construction of the Hon. Ahmed Khalif Stadium stands out as one of the significant projects undertaken during his tenure.

The stadium has become more than just a sporting facility, it represents Wajir’s growing potential and its readiness to host events of national importance.

That readiness was clearly demonstrated during the successful hosting of H.E. President William Ruto, during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir. The event placed Wajir firmly in the national spotlight and showcased the county’s organizational capability, hospitality and progress.

The successful coordination of such a high-profile national event reflected the strong leadership, teamwork and institutional collaboration fostered under Mr. Ngumo’s stewardship.

A Leader Who Valued Partnership

As he addressed guests during the ceremony, Mr. Ngumo expressed gratitude to the people of Wajir for the support and cooperation they extended to him throughout his assignment.

He acknowledged that the successes realized during his tenure were not individual achievements but the result of collective effort.

He praised the close working relationship between the Office of the County Commissioner and local communities, noting that the partnership had significantly contributed to peace, stability and development across the county.

His remarks underscored a leadership philosophy that recognized the importance of listening, consultation and inclusivity in public administration.

In recognition of his dedicated service, Mr. Ngumo received a befitting send-off from stakeholders who had worked alongside him over the years.

The warm tributes from leaders and community members reflected the high regard in which he is held and the impact he made in the lives of many residents.

As Mr. Ronald O. Enyakasi assumes office as the new County Commissioner, he inherits a county strengthened by collaboration and guided by structures built through sustained engagement among stakeholders.

While expressing confidence in the incoming administration, many attendees also reflected on the enduring legacy of Mr. Ngumo’s tenure—a legacy characterized by service above self, dedication to duty and an unwavering commitment to the people of Wajir.

As Wajir welcomes new CountyCommissioner, it does so with gratitude for a leader who served with distinction and leaves behind a record of tangible achievements.
