Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud vowed to support the Building Bridges initiative (BBI).
Speaking at Moi Stadium in Wajir during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Governor Abdi, said the BBI will usher in unity and peaceful co-existence among Kenyans. “We fully support the BBI and we shall continue to support President Uhuru kenyatta achieve the big four agenda” Abdi said
The Governor also urged local leaders and Wajir residents to fully support the initiative that is spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. “If the governor and his senator have spoken, who else will oppose the BBI ? As a county we have already given our views concerning the BBI and let’s wait their report” Abdi added
Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi was elected on a Jubilee ticket and was among the governors loyal to the Deputy President. On 2013 , Mohamed contested for a gubernatorial position on a URP ticket and lost to an ODM candidate.
Deputy President William Ruto is believed to spearhead Tanga Tanga , a movement of MPs allied to him who plainly oppose the Building Bridges Initiative arguing that it was meant to create positions for few individuals.
However, In Mombasa during the Mashujaa Day celebrations Uhuru and Ruto avoided the BBI debate even as former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who spoke before them had their say concerning the initiative.
Raila Odinga said the BBI is unstoppable and urged Kenyans to support it , the initiative will end politics of exclusion and foster unity in the country.
The Building Bridges Initiative task force was established after the much hyped handshake between President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, to ‘address ethnic antagonism, lack of a national ethos, inclusivity, devolution and divisive elections.’
