Garissa County Senator Abdul Haji has been unanimously endorsed by the Samawadal family as their sole candidate for the Garissa gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by Samawadaal elders after months of extensive and inclusive deliberations and broad consultations among family elders and stakeholders, Haji said the decision reflects unity and a shared commitment to the interests of the community.

The consultations, he noted, brought together elders and leaders from across the Samawadal family under the leadership of Sultan Hassan Sultan Omar Sultan Shurie, culminating  a historic and united decision.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to our respected elders for their time, wisdom and patience in sitting together to deliberate and arrive at this unanimous verdict,” Haji said.

The senator emphasized that the endorsement marks the beginning of a wider engagement with residents across Garissa County, signaling the start of early political mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the focus now shifts to building consensus and sharing a development vision with the people of the county.

“Anchored in unity and guided by faith, we now move forward with purpose. It is time to engage the people across Garissa County and carry this shared vision forward,” he said.

Haji also called for unity and reflection as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan approaches, expressing hope for peace, forgiveness, and collective progress.

“I pray that Allah grants us mercy, forgiveness, unity, and guidance during the blessed month of Ramadan,” he added.

The endorsement positions Haji as a key early contender in what is expected to be a closely watched gubernatorial race in Garissa County in 2027.
