Wajir county Governor, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has told off Nominated Senator Farhiya Haji after she warned top county executives against involvement in corruption deals and approving illegal payments.
Speaking during the Jamhuri Day fete at Wajir Moi stadium, the governor warned the senator to stop meddling in the county affairs, saying her sentiments were driven by self interest.
“You are not representing the interest of Wajir people, you are speaking for the person who sent you, we are aware,” he said.
“Madam, take care. Let us choose our words when speaking in this podium, ” Abdi said.
This outburst comes after Senator Farhiya Haji took to the podium and declared her support on a move made by Wajir County Assembly members who tabled a motion on payment of pending bills owed to the county by contractors.
The Senator also warned county executives and chief officers against authorizing illegal payments.
“I support the MCAs on this move, it’s a milestone , the CECs and CCOs should take care before signing any voucher or file,”she said.
“If you authorise anything that is not genuine, you will carry your own cross.”
The governor said that Wajir county is among the counties who made effort to clear pending bills contrary to a circular released by the National Treasury which showed Wajir as among 35 counties blacklisted due to non-payment of pending bills.
“Wajir county made a great effort in clearing pending bills,” the governor claimed.
The senator was heckled and was forced to cut short her speech by goons she allegedly claimed to have been hired by Wajir county first lady Ms Kheira Omar.
Farhiya recorded a statement with the police and investigations are underway.
