President Kenyatta has on Monday fired Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri and replaced him with Peter Munya who was been moved from Trade Ministry.

Kiunjuri was many times accused of supporting DP Ruto as he kindle his 2022 political roadmap. Although Parliament faulted him on July, 2019 over the withdrawal of Sh 1.8 billion from the Strategic Food Reserve Trust Fund as an advance payment for maize importation, many kenyans still believe that Mwangi is a victim of political rivalry.

Kiunjuri is not the first Cabinet Secretary or rather leader allied to Deputy President William Ruto who was fired or frustrated. Take down memory lane;

On July 22nd, 2019 former Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury Henry Rotich was arrested over Kimwarer and Aror scandal. President Kenyatta later appointed Ukur Yattani as the Acting CS for Treasury.

Rotich was believed to be one of top Ruto allies serving crucial docket courtesy of the DP’s efforts in the jubilee administration. Source reveal that President Kenyatta and DP Ruto agreed to share senior positions in the government even before they come to power.

On march 1st, 2019, President Kenyatta sacked Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and replaced him with Amina Mohamed in a mini reshuffle over unclear reasons. Many Kenyans including Echesa himself raised questions seeking the reason why he was sacked but none got a concrete answer.

Rashid Echesa was in the list fronted by the DP Ruto for cabinet slots during the sharing of the cabinet positions after Jubilee administration come to rule for the second time.

The alleged selective fight against corruption didn’t stopped with Cabinet Secretaries, powerful Governors allied to Ruto are now barred from offices, awaiting court to decide their fates.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested on 6th of December, 2019 over the loss of Sh 357 million as DPP Noordin Hajji said.

City’s governor was a staunch supporter of jubilee administration and one of the leaders who were advocating for William Ruto to be the political successor of President Kenyatta in 2022.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was also among the leaders arrested for graft cases. Besides the graft, Waititu was one of the leaders from Mount Kenya who plainly supported William Ruto in his 2022 early campaign.

Other leaders who were fought by the system for supporting DP William Ruto include Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Malindi MP Aisha Juma who was threatened to lose her seat by the ODM Party.

Despite Kenyans throwing their weight behind President Kenyatta in his fight against corruption, what puzzles many is why the war on corruption is so selective and targets leaders allied to the Deputy President William Ruto
