WAJIR- Tarbaj Member of Parliament Ahmed Bashane has directed Non Governmental Organisations to conduct their countering violent extremism (CVE) workshops in the sub-counties.

Speaking while attending a CVE actors meeting in Wajir town, the MP said that workshops conducted in Wajir town do not benefit the youths hence limiting the message from reaching it’s rightful audiences.

“Why conduct in Wajir town? Your workshops do not reach the target audiences” said the lawmaker.

The MP also warned the local NGOs tasked on implementing CVE programs in the county to desist from selecting the attendees from their families and relatives , the legislatures comment comes after a local survey conducted in Wajir county insinuated that the attendees are mostly picked from Wajir town.

”This should stop, you should look for the right people,”

He continued, ”it’s shame to limit such important programs to your friends and families who are not in anyway affected by extremism,” Tarbaj MP added.

Tarbaj constituency, Wajir has borne the brunt of terrorist attacks by Al-Shabaab insurgents who have often crossed into the constituency from Kutulo and Konton locations which shares a porous border with Somalia to commit the illegal acts.

On December, last year, eight people were killed after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a Mandera-bound bus between Kutulo and Wargadud area in Wajir County.
