Is Raila grooming Suna East MP Junet Mohamed to be his political successor?

Suna East member of parliament and minority whip in the National Assembly Junet Mohamed has of late been in the public limelight after making directives and taking charge in both party and government business which is way above his prerogative.

Many Kenyans are still asking themselves about the sudden powers and privileges that Junet Mohamed enjoys which remains anonymous to the public. From the mock swearing-in of Raila Odinga to the consultative BBI rallies.

On March 9, 2018; when ODM party leader and President Kenyatta shook hands outside Harambe house to end the political turmoil in an unexpected event where almost all the leaders including the Deputy President William Ruto and opposition bigwigs were nowhere near Harambe building, Junet Mohamed was present. Junet was the only elected leader who accompanied Odinga even though the ODM party and NASA coalition by extension had senior leaders holding crucial roles. It is still not clear what inspired Raila to settle for Junet over the other leaders.

Days after Raila and President Kenyatta constituted Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) taskforce to go round in the 47 counties and collect the views of the public, dissenting groups came up, Pro-BBI and Anti-BBI. In that period of disagreement between the political class, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was seen holding press conference after another while giving powerful directives of government business and even in the Jubilee party, a move which the political analysts and opinion leaders defined as a sign of bigger role though unofficial.

On November 29, 2019, during the launch of the much hyped BBI report by President Kenyatta held at the Bomas of Kenya, in a game changing event attended by local and international leaders, Suna Mp was the Master of Ceremonies(MC). Many Kenyans including the political class faulted the organizers arguing that such national event deserved a better emcee than Junet who was politically inclined to one side while others praised him for the bravery and comical traits he portrayed. Kenyans still believe that was a signal of its kind.

At the 2nd and 3rd consultative BBI rallies that was held at Kakamega and Mombasa respectively, Junet was literally the Master of Ceremonies(MC) introducing his colleagues from the national assembly who attended the rally while MPs from Mombasa County were on the bench following the event same as the visitors.

According to the people of Migori, Junet takes the shortest time and incur the least expense in his campaigns of Suna East Constituency, it only takes Raila’s endorsement and the deal is done.

It is evident that the force behind Junet Mohamed is one Raila Odinga but no one understands why and what is next for him.
