North eastern leaders have rejected the outcome of the 2019 National population and housing cencus.

The leaders led by the Majority leader Aden Duale have jointly disputed the result, saying the numbers were doctored .

Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi said that the exercise conducted by Kenya National Bareau of statistics (KNBS ) was sham and should not be forced on the people living in North-Eastern Kenya.

“KNBS exercise was sham , nearly all the regions in the country are complaining and that clearly shows that the money used by the relevant authority was not utilized properly , so that money should be audited,” he said.

Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane warned that the government was trading on the wrong route and such results might cause alot of dangers to North Eastern counties who were already marginalised.

“How are we going to convince our people that their numbers reduced in the last 10 years when they saw themselves growing ? This is a dangerous trend and the government should be cautious with this matter,” he said.

On his part , Mandera Governor Ali Roba, who addressed the media from his residence, said that he was shocked by how government machinery was used to manipulate the results to further marginalise Northern Kenya.

“It’s illogical to say that Mandera will have a negative population growth when all the data by KNBS have consistently been indicating that Mandera has the biggest fertility rate compared to other counties.”

Aden Duale, the National Assembly Majority Leader said they have assembled a team of lawyers to analyse the data for North Eastern kenya and will challenge the result in a court of law.

The leaders were speaking during a press conference held at Parliment Building.
