
WAJIR-The Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims has called on Wajir clerics to play a crucial in the fight against terrorism.
Speaking while addressing a convergence of religious leaders and clerics in Wajir town , North eastern regional supkem coordinator Shiekh Adan Yunis said that the war on terror cannot be won without the efforts of the clerics and urged them to steer in fighting radicalisation.
“You are very resourceful in the fight against Al- shabab, help us,” Mr. Yunis said
Cases of youth radicalisation has been high in Wajir, in the five last years, an estimated number (100) youths were lured to join the Somalia based, Al- shabab.
Mr. Yunis also challenged the clerics to come clean on the war against terror, this comes after some of Wajir clerics were suspected to have had links with Al-shabab.
”Sieve the bad ones from yourself, and let us work together and fight Al-shabab” Added Supkem coordinator.
The clerics further agreed to spearhead the process of Countering violent extremism by use of ‘Muhadara’ or preaching which will put more focus on the stand of the islamic religion on the ideologies of Al-shabab.
This meeting comes days after Wajir leadership, security heads and Wajir residents attended a consultative meeting to deliberate on how to end al- shabab attacks in Wajir , parts of the outcome of the communique of the meeting read the arming of locals as a ‘homegrown solution‘ because they are the ones who understands the terrain and the tactics of Al- shabab.
