
Moment after a clique of Central Kenya leaders held a press conference about their preparations ahead of the impending BBI rally in Meru on Saturday, February 29, lawmakers allied to the DP William Ruto held a counter-presser saying they will craft and present their BBI proposals to the taskforce.
The rift of Central Kenya leaders and Jubilee party grows as each camp now want to own all the BBI rallies held in the region and present divergent proposals.
Speaking after Capital Hill meeting, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi said that they will hold a townhall meetings ahead of the rally so that they will harmonize the agendas from all the ten Counties of Central Kenya. He also warned those who want to disrupt the meetings not to attend the BBI rally.
“We have heard those who are saying BBI is waste of time. So if it is a waste of time stay at home and keep off, don’t come to Kinoru Stadium,” said Governor Murungi.
On her part, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said the region is behind President Kenyatta and they will attend the upcoming BBI rally in unison. Waiguru added that anyone who is against the rally must stay at their homes.
Tanga Tanga lawmakers led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Kikuyu counterpart Imani ichungwa come out guns blazing saying that they are the elected leaders from Mt Kenya region and they are the ones to say what their electorates want to include in the BBI recommendations.
While speaking with the media, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said the BBI rallies were so divisive from the onset and they now urge the taskforce team to set it back to its original roadmap.
“We have been living very peacefully until this BBI rallies started and from what we have seen, if this goes unchecked we have our fears. Our people have genuine concerns this situation could get out of hand,” said Gachagua.
Mr Ichung’wa also reiterated that their team will going to craft their own proposals and present it to the steering committee.
“If there are memorandums to be given we will have our own as elected representatives of the people,” Kimani reiterated.
BBI consultative rally is set to happen in Meru County on Saturday, February 29.
