
The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has elected Abdirahman Mahdi as their new chairman .
Mahdi who was the foreign affairs secretary and one of the founders of ONLF was elected in elections held in Godey Town yesterday where mahdi got a total of 340 votes against his closest competitor Ahmed Yassin who got 247 votes.
The position fell vaccact following the retiring of the incumbent Omar Osman. ONLF , a seperatist group of the Somali region fighting for a self – determination was formed in the 1980s.
In 2018, The Ethiopian government and ONLF signed a truce to a end the long decades of hostilities and address the “root causes” of conflict between the two sides which saw ONLF registered as a political party in Ethiopia.
