Mandera Governor warns parents against early marriage.

Mandera County Governor Mohamed Khalif has called upon parents and guardians to prioritize girl child education in order to empower women and fight against early marriage. Speaking in Kilweheri Subcounty in Mandera county the Governor has put on alert parents who preserve their girls for marriage and give less importance in their future. He urged the parent to take the advantage of his administration’s ‘Elimu Kwa Wote’ (Education for All) initiative to educate the daughters.

“the main reason why we brought Elimu kwa wote program is to give chance for our girls to get an equal opportunity for education when it comes to education”. Governor Khalif said.

On his part Kilweheri Subcounty of Banissa Constituency, Deputy County Commissioner Festus Munyao encouraged the community to prioritize girls’ education and cautioned against anyone subjecting girls to early marriages saying that the government would take decisive action against perpetrators.

“Let’s give our girls an opportunity to go to school and the government will not tolerate anyone who will force his daughter into early marriage”. Munyao said.

In order to boost education sector in Mandera County, this year January, Governor Mohamed Khalif has launched Elimu Kwa Wote initiative and made public secondary school education free. The Sh350 million initiative was meant to pay for tuition for all students in the 59 public seconday schools in the county.
