Former Attorney General, Amos Wako was on Monday barred from travelling to the United states of America due to his involvement in a corruption scandal .

A letter from US department of state secretary Mike Pompeo reveals, Busia senator, Amos Wako, his wife Flora Ngaira and his son Julius Wako have been involved in a significant corruption and are not eligible to travel or do business in the US.

The move comes after president Kenyatta vowed to fight corrupt officials as one of his Top agendas and not to relent in the war against corruption.

Through the letter, the US department confirms, the designation was made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2019 (Div. F, P.L. 116-6), as carried forward by the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2020 (Div. A, P.L. 116-59).  Section 7031(c) provides that, in cases where the Secretary of State has credible information that officials of foreign governments have been involved in significant corruption, those individuals and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry into the United States.

The action made by the US government shows that United States is a helpful partner in Kenya’s fight against corruption.

United States promise to support Kenyans in the fight against corruption.

“The United States will continue to stand with all Kenyans as they strive to curb and punish corruption in Kenya.” reads the letter.

Other foreign partners in Kenya’s fight against Corruption include Britain, Switzerland and Jersey Island who signed an agreement with Kenya Government aimed at repatriation of assets and monies acquired through corrupt deals back into the country.
