
Andy Munyiri of Damacrest School in Thogoto tops 1,088,986 candidates who sat for KCPE exams last month.
On Monday, Education cabinet secretary, Prof Magoha announced to the public the top student, andy Munyiri who scored 440Marks.
Other top candidates include flavian anyango who scored 439, June Cheptoo koech, 439 and Sean Ndung’u of Kitangela international.
Cs Prof Magoha confirmed that In 27000 examinations centers, 1,088,986 candidates sat for the examinations which began on October 28 to Oct 31, 2019.
The Cs futher confirmed that there is drop in the number of students who scored more than 400 marks compared to last year’s results.
Boys beat girls in almost all the subjects though girls show best in some of the subjects like sign language, English and Kiswahili. Also, the performance of the students was relatively better compared to 2018 results.
Prof Magoha also applauded the effort of the parents in ensuring the students attend school by advising them on effect of early pregnancy and early marriages to their future.
“I hope this calamity of young angels being impregnated by old hyenas will stop,” Magoha said.
Speaking at mtihani house the KNEC CEO Dr Mercy Karogo requested for a minute of silence for the teachers who died in line duty including those who involved in an accident while going to collect the examination papers in Nakuru.
TSC boss Nancy macharia said that the commission recruited 5000 and will also add 10000 interns to fill the gap. Macharia recognized the efforts of teachers in the just concluded examinations and in education sector as well. Nancy also confirmed that 26 teachers who involved in examinations irregularities are under investigation.
The number of boys who sat for KCPE last month were 527,294 (50.1 per cent) and 525,070(49.9 per cent) girls.
