President Ruto Meets Mandera Leaders to Accelerate Development Agenda.

President William Ruto today hosted Mandera County leaders at State House, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to fast-tracking transformative development programmes in the expansive northern region.
The delegation was led by Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif and Senator Ali Ibrahim Roba, and included Members of Parliament from all six constituencies in the county.
The meeting comes shortly after the President’s recent tour of the Northeastern region, where he launched and assessed progress of the Nyota Programme initiative aimed at uplifting communities through targeted socio-economic empowerment.
During the discussions, President Ruto and the Mandera leaders focused on key priority projects designed to unlock the county’s vast potential. Central to the agenda was the need to ensure dependable electricity connectivity across Mandera to support businesses, institutions and households.
The leaders also deliberated on accelerating the construction and upgrading of roads to enhance mobility and trade, expanding access to clean and reliable water, rolling out affordable housing projects and establishing modern markets to boost local commerce.
In a bid to strengthen technical and vocational training, the meeting resolved to support the development of student hostels in each of the technical colleges across Mandera’s six constituencies. The move is expected to increase access to skills training and empower young people with competencies aligned to market needs.
Recognising northern Kenya as the country’s next frontier for large-scale food production, President Ruto emphasized the immense potential of irrigation-based agriculture in the region. The leaders agreed to begin identifying and setting aside land suitable for commercial agriculture to drive food security, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
The President reiterated the Government’s commitment to working closely with county leadership to ensure equitable development and improve livelihoods, noting that inclusive partnerships between national and county governments are key to delivering lasting transformation.
The engagement underscores the administration’s broader agenda of accelerating infrastructure development, expanding economic opportunities and integrating historically marginalised regions into the national growth framework.
