One NEP County risking shutdown

Garissa county was listed among the counties risking total shutdown for failing to clear pending bills owed to contractors and suppliers.

Acting National Treasury cabinet secretary Ukur Yattani listed Garissa county among the 15 counties who have not made any effort to clear pending bills for financial year 2019/20.

Other counties are Narok, Machakos , Nairobi, Vihiga , Isiolo , Tana River , Migori , Tharaka Nithi,, Bomet , Nandi , Mombasa, Kiambu and Baringo .

On August ,The High Court in Garissa issued an order barring the county government from using Sh1.2 billion released for clearing pending bills until the county paid the contractors .

The Treasury has for several times urged the county governments to finalize their budget processes and prioritize settlement of pending payments to suppliers to ensure the smooth running of county governments .

The orders from CS Yatani will be effective from 1st of December.
