Four arrested in relation to Marsabit killings

The three suspects have been arrested in relation to inter-communal conflicts in Jardesa, Marsabit County. A politician, two administrators and a driver were arrested after Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and police interrogated a number of local leaders. Three suspects linked to the Kukuto and Jaldesa killings where 10 people lost their lives will remain in police custody. The three will be arraigned in Court on Monday.

Police Spokesman Charles Owino said the police has recovered 154 head of cattle and 70 goats. He also added that the security officers are pursuing the bandits who killed three police officers and disappeared with three guns and more than fifty bullets.

“A Multi-agency opperation to pursue the criminals and the illicit firearms in their possession is still on and we are urging members of public within the area who are in unlawful possession of arms to surrender to the police with immediate effect” Owino said

Marsabit County Commissioner Evans Achoki said the Government has taken appropriate security measures to calm the situation and police will arrest culprits irrespective of their position in the society.

“We will arrest all the perpetrators of this heinous act and those who funded it we don’t care their position in the society,” Achoki said

On Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i gave illegal firearms holders an ultimatum of 24 hours to surrender the illicit arms to the Government or to face forced disarmament.
