WAJIR- Wajir County Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has issued a temporary ban on the transportation and the trade of Mirra within Wajir amid the increasing cases of Coronavirus in the country.
While issuing a press conference on the COVID- 19 at the county Headquarters, the governor issued a 30- days minimum ban on the trade of Khat saying it stands a high risk of transmitting the virus.
The governor said that his administration had set up an isolation ward within the perimeters of Wajir referral hospital and will put more focus on the sub-counties and boarder points.
“Wajir is classified as a high risk county since we share international boarders with both Somalia and Ethiopia who have confirmed their first cases. We have to take extra preventive measures,’’ Abdi said.
The county government has also instructed hotel owners and public service vehicles to maintain high standard of hygiene by providing hand sanitizers.
Public gatherings, entertainment joints, county government and partners workshops have also been suspended.
The county boss has appealed to the county security team in implementing the orders until the ban is lifted.
