Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali has admitted that he illegally employed county staffs from his own backyard.
In a leaked video, the governor, who was speaking in the local dialects, said he overruled the county public service board and employed 800 Boranas at the expense of the other communities.
” I’m under the EACC radar for employing over 800 Boranas irregularly , I did it for you,” Mohamud said.
The governor also said the Borana communitiy were denied opportunities by the successive regime led by former Governor and current acting CS Treasury Ukur Yattani.
“The CPSB declined to heed my request, I overruled them because we were left in the cold by the previous regime,” Mohamud Added.
In July 2019, Mohamud defended the recruitment of county employees by his administration saying it was done fairly and considered all the communities living in the county.
“Since my administration took over, we considered those discriminated from county opportunities, the purpose was to create equity among all the communities,” the governor said.
Several members of the county Executive were last year summoned by the Ethic and Anti Corruption Commission to answer queries on accusation of nepotism.
