Former Wajir First Lady gets plum job at government parastatal

The former Wajir county first lady, Mrs. Rukia Abdinasir, was appointed to the National Occupational Safety and Health National Council member in the Ministry of Labour and Social Services.

Cabinet Secretary for Labour Amb. Ukur Yatani, who is also the acting Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Planning, unveiled the council members led by their chairman Mr. Joseph kanguchu , Rukia Abdinasir and Angelina chepchirchir as it’s members.

The council was established to promote safe and health workplace by implementing effective systems for the prevention of occupational diseases, ill health accidents and damage to property in order to reduce the cost of production and improve productivity in all sectors of the economic activities.

The appointment of the former Wajir first lady comes amid rumours that her husband , former Wajir Governor Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi will likely be appointed to a powerful position in the national government. The pioneer Wajir Governor who is believed to be in good rapport with the cabinet secretary was also reported to have been the chief guest of the homecoming ceremony for Ukur Yatani which was held in Marsabit town.

Mrs. Rukia Abdinasir, who was commended for her job well done during her tenure as the first lady in Wajir county, is expected to play a pivotal role in demanding rights of workers in the country, and more so in North Eastern counties where cases of harassment and sacking of workers for no genuine reason was highly reported.
