President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in commemorating the 55th Mashujaa day celebrations in the country. This year’s national celebration was held in Mombasa county. Mashujaa day is special day to collectively commemorate and honour all those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s independence.

In Northern counties, the mashujaa day was also marked as local heroes and heroines were celebrated.

Here is a recap of the comments made by NEP leaders regarding the Mashujaa day fete

Mohamed Abdi Mohamud: Governor ,Wajir county

During this Mashujaa Day, we commemorate the fruits of the efforts of our heroes both in our County and the Country. It is through their sacrifices that we continue to enjoy peace and prosperity. In addition, the long awaited rain has fairly commenced with some parts receiving above normal amount. We thank Allah for His great blessings.
I urge Wajirians to care about their safety and be vigilant of the heavy flash floods especially in the North.

Ali ibrahim Roba: Governor , Mandera County

As we celebrate Mashujaa day, we must have cultural identity as Mandera community, our people must have a sense of pride in their identity as the people of Mandera and a sense of belonging to their country and and specifically their home Mandera.

Ali Bunow Korane : Governor , Garisaa county

As we celebrate the victory of our heroes, who had the vision of a better Kenya, let their courage and conviction inspire us to action in fulfillment of the vision of freedom and prosperity.

Recognizing the efforts of our freedom fighters who used their lives to free our nation from colonial imperialists and contributed to our independence is an important aspect of patriotism and a fundamental pillar of National Unity.
I wish to take this opportunity to wish all Kenyans a happy Mashujaa Day as we celebrate the lives of our heroes and heroines.
It is upon us to emulate our founding fathers and free our nation from social ills like corruption and tribalism.

Hon.Anab Subow Gurre: MP ,Garissa

Today as we honour our gallant freedom fighters, Let us also honour those Kenyans who, every day, perform acts of selflessness and bravery. They include the volunteers who respond in disasters and emergencies, the philanthropists who donate to the needy and members of our security services who protect us at great risk to their own lives.
On my own behalf, and on behalf of the people of Kenya, I say a big “Thank You” to all of you.
