The Kenya National Bareau of statistics has officially released the 2019 kenya population and housing cencus .
Speaking at State house during the launch of 2019 Kenya population and housing cencus report by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr. Zachary Mwangi who is the Director General of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) unveiled the 2019 population cencus.
According to KNBS there are 47,564,296 people in Kenya, 23.6 million being male, 24 million female and 1524 Intersex with Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Bungoma, Kakamega recording the highest number.
Northern counties of Wajir ,Mandera and Garisaa recorded the least number with Mandera county leading by 867,457, followed by Gariisa county 841, 353 and Wajir county 781,263.
From this report , it’s clear that the fate of constituencies in the country , especially in Northern kenya remains unclear after they failed to register the minimum threshold required by KNBS and might be scrapped when IEBC will do the realignment of constituency boarders before 2021.
North Eastern leaders are however afraid that the result was doctored and did not reveal the exact data collected by KNBS officials , a move they say is designed to push North Eastern counties further into the abyss of marginalisation.
Hon. Mohamed Hire – MP- Lagdera constituency
The census data released by KNBS is fake and does not meet the minimum threshold of integrity. It is inaccurate and therefore not acceptable. We demand for the availing of the raw data as captured by the enumerators in the August 2019 census exercise. We cannot have a constituency that has its population reducing by more than 50% unless there was calamity that displaced the population. It does not conform to any population growth trend and is illogical. We will get to the bottom of the cooked figures at KNBS!
Billow kerrow – Former senator, Mandera county
Welcome to Census made in Kuria’s Gatundu! Kiambu & Central Kenya with the lowest fertility / growth rates in Kenya now record the highest population growth. North Eastern with the higest fertility rates / household sizes record lowest or negative growth. Census ya vifaranga!
Hon .Ahmed Bashane – MP -Tarbaj constituency
In 2009 Census, the Population of Tarbaj people was 111,846. Here comes 2019 result, KNBS is stating that the population is less than 2009 figures. How comes after 10 years the figures are less?
With the Polygamous nature of the somali community, something is not adding up. KNBS must come clean on the result of Tarbaj Constituency. We demand for raw data.
I will be challenging KNBS at the Court of Law.
On his part , President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted that the result released will provide a unique opportunity to realign the development strategies , policies and programs of the his government in the planning process . He also directed other arms of government, counties and development partners to follow suit is planning and resource allocation for the benefit of kenyans .
