Tottenham forward Son Heung-min said he was “really sorry” for his tackle which led to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes’ horrific ankle injury. Gomes had surgery on Monday after he suffered a fractured diskocation to his right ankle in Sunday’s league draw against Mauricio Pochettino ‘side.

“I can say I’m really sorry for the accident and the situation but I had to focus for the team and I had to keep going and it was the right response to all the people who have supported me.” Son said

The South Korean did not celebrate his first goal against Red Star Belgrade in Champions League instead clasping his hands and bowing his head.

Son was sent off for his tackle on Gomes and was visibly distressed but his red card was  overturned  by the Football Association on Tuesday following an appeal by Tottenham.

Son scored two goals in four minutes as second-placed Tottenham easily won their Group B game to open up a four-point gap over Red Star Belgrade in third.

In other Champions League results, Juventus sealed their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with an injury-time winner against Lokomotiv Moscow in Group D.

Bayern Munich booked their place in the last 16 after beating Olympiakos 2-0 in Munich. Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead at 69th minute before Perisic added the second 1 minute before the stoppage time.

Paris St-Germain qualified into the last 16 of the Champions League with a scrappy victory over Club Bruges in Group A. Mauro Icardi scored the only goal as the French champions maintained their perfect start to their European campaign.

Premier champions Manchester City held on 1-1 draw with Atalanta in Group C. Raheem Sterling had given the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 7th of game before Chelsea loannee Mario Pasalic equalised four minutes into the second half.

Spanish giants Real Madrid trashed Galatasaray 6-0 at Satiago Bernabeu. Brazilian forward Rodrygo s scored a hat-trick, Kareem Benzema also scored twice while Real Madrid’s captain Sagio Ramos scored a penalty.

Bayern Leverkusen beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 while Dinamo Zagreb drew 3-3 with Shakhtar Donetsk
