Why are my people detained under unclear circumstances, Wajir East MP asks Government


Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim has demanded answers from the Government on the recent reported increased cases of indefinite detention of members of the public from his constituency.

In the last six month, Eight people from Wajir East were allegedly detained by the Kenyan security forces and are currently jailed without trial.

During his first address in the Kenyan Parliament which resumed yesterday, the MP demanded answers from the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security to table a full report on the cases revolving the detention of the residents.

“As a nation, we have recently been disheartened and greatly concerned on the reports of the members of the public detained by security agencies under unclear circumstances,” said Rashid Kassim.

The list of the persons from Wajir East Constituency currently ddetained in police custody are; Mr. Jimale Elmi Salat, Mr. Salah Muhumed Hassan, Mr. Abdi Bishar Omar, Mr. Bashow Noor Muhumed, Mr. Abdullahi Husseim Elmi, Mr. Abdi Jelle Salat, Mr. Daud Ahmed Muhumed and Abdi.

He asked also asked the Chairperson of the Committee Mr. Koinange Paul to give a clear direction on why the innocent persons are detained and the step the Government will take to make sure they are released unconditionally.

Rashid has also urged the Government to take a stern action against the security apparatus involved in such heinous act.

The Committee is expected to respond to the statements tabled by the legislator in the next weeks.
