The Eldas constituency Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has disclosed that they were locked out from attending the relaunch of the refurbished Kenya Meat Commission (KMC)
In an advisory opinion article to President Kenyatta written by the legislature that appeared on Daily Nation yesterday, he said the move has been orchestrated by people he described as “immature technocrats” surrounding him.
Keynan said that the Pastrolist communities living in the Arid and the Semi areas of the country were left out in the witnessing of such a milestone project despite playing a pivotal role in the supply of meat to the Commission.
The MP added that leaders from this region were deliberately denied an opportunity even after making several requests to witness the historic revival of the Commission which was hugely indebted and on the verge of collapse.
The Project was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta on May, 24,2021 at Athi River, Machakos county.
The re-opening came a month after the President fully transferred the management of the commission from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries to the Ministry of Defence.
The transfer gave a mandate to KDF to revamp the infrastructure of the commission with a view of making it more viable to meet food challenges in the country.
Eldas MP. Adan Keynan was among the first few leaders from Northern Kenya who publicly supported the takeover of the Kenya Meat Commission by the military saying that it was operating under a miserable situation and did not meet the expectations of Kenyans.
He said the commission was once viable and among the best and most profitable Government Parastatal exporting it’s product to the entire continent.
The legislature added that the revival of the plant will greatly benefit Livestock farmers from Northern Kenya.
