Sixteen teams to battle it out for Culture and Heritage PS tournament in Wajir.

The Round of 16 of the Culture and Heritage Principal Secretary Ummi Bashir football tournament is set to kick off Tuesday with six (6) fixtures slated in the morning and in the afternoon in three different venues from 7:30am and 4:20pm respectively.
On Tuesday morning, Al-Ihtisam will face Super Stars at Police Stadium, while Police FC will take on the finalist of the Governor’s Super Cup Al-Anzar at Wagberi Primary Field. The key match of morning fixtures will see Al-Hilal taking on Manyalo at Wajir Stadium.
In the afternoon fixtures, Manpower Fc will met Al-Suni FC in the round 16 of PS Ummi Bashir’s tournament at Wajir Stadium. The Governor’s Super Cup champions Fc Shabaah play against C.O.C FC at Wagberi Primary Field as the defending champions of Siyad Patni tournament JR4 will face against their neighbours Arid FC at Police Stadium in Tuesday afternoon.
Only two fixtures on Wednesday morning cards as Azhar Fc takes on Young Stars at Wagberi Primary while Gaza Fc will entertain Wajir Peace Fc at Police Stadium.
Mahdi Osman, who is the coordinator of the tournament, has called on fans to turn up in their numbers to cheer their favourite teams to shun any act of violence that could affect the smooth running of the competition.
“The purpose of this tournament is to bring together our youth and fight against GBV menace and i also urge them to keep off what will hinder their coexistence” Mahdi said.
Mahdi emphasised the initiative’s role in fostering discipline and togetherness among the participants and the fans.
The football tournament aimed at eradicating Gender based violence in Wajir attracted a total of 40 teams drawn from all the villages in Wajir town. Eight teams were eliminated in the play-off games while another sixteen teams were defeated at the knockout stage.
The draw for quarterfinals and semis will be done immediately after the last game of the round 16. The final of the tournament is expected to be held on August 24th.
